Noise Cancellation

Noise Cancellation stops ambient room noise from being picked up by the microphones on the conference phone. Noise Cancellation is also known as Active Noise Control or Active Noise Reduction (ANR) or antinoise. It is process of prohibiting unacceptable sound. Sound made up of pulse in the air which can be express as wave. If a speaker emits a sound whose wave has the same amplitude and the exact opposite polarity to the original sound, the waves cancel out and the result is no sound at all.

Noise cancellation device uses a microphone to pick up waves from a noise medium. The output of the microphone is assign to a computerized signal processor, which produces a waveform which is similar to the original one, but it is 180 degree out of phase. This amplified out of phase signal is directed back towards the noise source through speaker phone. When these both sound waves combines, they cancel out each other & this cause reduction in noise.

HVAC systems, projectors, laptops & fluorescent lights are some of the examples of ambient noise sources. ClearOne uses a spectral content analysis technique which separates a communicator's voice from ambient noise and only applies noise cancellation to ambient noise sources.

Echo cancellation

During a conference call one of the challenge is to eliminate acoustical echo & delivering good sound quality. The term Echo Cancellation is used in telephony to explain the method of eliminating echo from a voice communication so that better voice quality will be recieve on phone calls.

Echo Cancellation can be defined by many ways, such as:-

  • The method of removing the acoustic echo in a video conferencing room.
  • A technique used in high-speed modems and voice circuits to isolate and filter out unwanted signal energy caused by echoes from the main transmitted signal.

In Echo Cancellation the originally transmitted signal that re-appears, with some delay are recognized, in the recieved signals. Once we can recognized the echo, we can eliminates from the the recieved signals. This approach is mainly implemented by using Diginal Signal Processor (DSP), it can also be implemented using software i.e echo suppressors or echo cancellers.

Due to Echo Cancellation the person hear his own voice with an Echo. This Distributed Echo Cancellation problem is solved by ClearOne. They solve this problem by assigning an acoustical echo canceller to each microphone. This echo canceller recognises the sound and returned it to other end as an echo and removes it.

In the year 1998 ClearOne introduced the Distributed Echo Cancellation and integrates it into every audio conferencing system.

VoIP Conference Phone

ClearOne's AccuMic VC and PC are true plug-and-play echo and noise canceling microphones that provide superior audio pickup for video and computer-based conferencing.

For web conferencing applications, AccuMic PC is a perfect complement. Most PCs don't come with any type of microphone, and typical inexpensive PC microphones deliver poor audio quality to the far end. AccuMic PC provides patented ClearOne audio processing technologies to deliver crystal clear audio to participants on the call.

VoIP Conferencing Phones products

  • AccuMic PC - It is a new AccuMic(TM) PC that connects to a personal computer.

  • AccuMic VC - It is an echo-cancelling microphone that connects to a set-top video codec.

  • Button Mic - For unobtrusive tabletop placement of microphones

  • Delta Mic - Accentutates teleconferencing applications that demand high quality audio

  • Tabletop Mic - For conference tables that require minimal visibility microphones.

Advantages of ClearOne's VoIP Conferencing Phone

  • Distributed Echo Cancellation - During the conference call delivering good quality sound is difficult when acoustical echo arises. The problem exists in any communications scenario where there is a speaker and a microphone.ClearOne's VoIP Conferencing Phone solve this problem by assigning acoustical echo canceller to each microphone. This echo canceller identifies the sound that would alternatively return back to the far end as echo & eliminates it.

  • Noise Cancellation - ClearOne's VoIP Conferencing Phone aims to rectify the noise cancellation technology i.e overflow of noise which we experience.ClearOne's spectral content analysis technique differentiates a person's voice from ambient noise. This VoIP Conferencing Phone cancel unacceptable ambient sound that allowing listener to focus solely on the sound.

  • First Microphone Priority - When multiple microphones are active simultaneously in an audio conference phone, voice signals arrive at different microphones at different times due to the reflection of the sound from walls, ceilings or other surfaces which causes sound distortion. ClearOne's VoIP Conferencing Phone resolves this problem.ClearOne's First Microphone Priority technology minimizes this distortion by using an intelligent voice detection method to activate only one microphone at a time based on its proximity to the person speaking.

  • ClearEffect™ - The vast majority of conference calls are conducted using narrow-band telephony signals, which eliminate the high and low tones from participant's voices. This causes listener fatigue due to participants straining to hear what is being said. ClearEffect creates natural, full-sounding audio by simulating the high and low tones that were eliminated by the narrow-band signal. The result is similar to moving from a clock radio to a full-room entertainment system.

VoIP Speaker Phone

Making all the long distance phone calls you want for one low price! Many broadband Internet providers are touting new services to make long distance bills a thing of the past. Companies are foregoing traditional telephony service and opting to go with newer services that use network technologies to provide telephone service. How are these things possible? Yes we can say it is possible by using ClearOne VoIP speaker phone.

Let us first we discuss what is VoIP and how it is works.

Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a new technology that uses broadband Internet and/or network lines to transmit real-time voice information. This technology has the potential for completely changing the way phone calls are made and making phone companies a thing of the past. It is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. Some VoIP services may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. It is simply the transmission of voice traffic over IP-based networks.

When you make phone calls on the Internet, many things must be happen. On the sending side, analog voice signals are-

  • digitized.

  • compressed.

  • divided into packets.

  • transmitted over network lines.
On the receiving end, the signals are-

  • recombined

  • uncompressed

  • & converted back into audio
Equipment needed in VoIP

  • broadband (high speed Internet) connection - It could be through a cable modem, or high speed services such as DSL or a local area network.

  • computer, adaptor, or specialized phone is required.
The major difference between these voice packets and regular data packets is that for VoIP to be effective, the signals must be delivered in a timely, reliable manner.VoIP can be relatively inexpensive to implement, although costs rise as the complexity of the system increases.

VoIP Telephones There are three methods of connecting to a VoIP network

  • Using a VoIP telephone

  • Using normal telephone with a VoIp adapter

  • Using a computer with speaker and a microphone.

There are currently several problems with this technology like -

  • If the computer or network lines fail, then telephone service is interrupted.

  • The "up" time of these systems is still significantly less than with traditional phone systems

  • that tracking the origin of a call is difficult because the signals are transmitted over the Internet.

  • the quality of VoIP service is lower than that of a traditional phone system.
ClearOne’sPersonal Conferencing speaker phone products provide unmatched full-duplex audio clarity and connect to a wide variety of devices for conferencing whenever and wherever you need it.
